The second edition of the SC Trade Center Talks, the series of conferences that gives a voice to sportswomen to share their experiences, has reached its second session. On this occasion, sportswomen and businesswomen were the protagonists. The SC Trade Center Talks are open to everyone and attendance is free.
In the talk that was held this Thursday, March 16, at the SC Trade Center they have met the former Olympic swimmer and co-leader of Bevalue Sports, Erika Villaécija; the CEO of BHealthy, Marta Puigdoménech; and the manager and co-founder of Villa Picklebal, Almudena Lázaro. Marc Martín, TVE sports journalist, was in charge of presenting and conducting the conference.
The director of the SC Trade Center, Alexia Porqueras, opened the session, and after thanking those involved in making the talks possible, she emphasized that “at the SC Trade Center we do many beautiful things for women entrepreneurs”. The event was also attended by Elena Vila, Deputy Mayor for Economic Promotion, Employment, Enterprise and Commerce of Sant Cugat. The head of Economy of the local government has indicated that the talk “is important and necessary for women” and that the “influence in sport brings leadership also at the business level, while the values of the sporting world are transferred to the business world”. Vila has also indicated that in recent years the “gender perspective has gained in the city with the Equality Plan “.
Being a woman and an entrepreneur
Multiple medalist Erika Villaécija explained the change she experienced five years ago when she retired from competition to enter the world of work. The Olympian explained that the start-up of Bevalue Sports responded to help “to the transition for when the sports career of athletes ends”, after all “for any athlete finding something, you are passionate about as much as sport after the career is very important and also very difficult”. Villaécija, who is currently a psychologist, has also set up a program to improve the technique of amateur swimmers and another for professional swimmers to improve their training and times, and argued that “sport has beautiful things for the values and learning, but it is important to know that sport time is slow at a time when immediacy prevails, which can generate frustration”.
For her part, Almudena Lázaro has put on the table that a year and a half ago she started with Pickleball, a sport that “reinvented our personal and professional life” in reference to her and her partner. Lázaro highlighted the benefits of this paddle sport, the fastest growing in the world and that mixes ping-pong, tennis and badminton, in terms of body care, mind care and nutrition, values that she shares. The manager of Vila Pickleball has also highlighted the inclusiveness of this sport and in which “people of all ages can play”.
Finally, Marta Puigdomènech, CEO of BHealthy, began her speech by pointing out that “the life we have set up for ourselves goes against our health” and compared a sedentary lifestyle to “stagnant water, water that gets dirty and ends up rotting, and if we don’t move, we feel bad and we start making up stories… 95% of our health is moving and that is the solution to problems”.
Puigdomènech said that BHealthy was born to accompany women during pregnancy and postpartum ” mother, with the concern of knowing what it is to be a mother, I want a loudspeaker to reach all countries so that mothers do not feel alone at home with their babies”. The entrepreneur went back to the beginnings of her company and said that having studied INEF motivated her to help pregnant women and during the postpartum period.
I started doing it before I had children. We provide our services online, as well as in person outdoors, and “we try to get them in the sun and if possible barefoot”. I realized that we had something very powerful, when I got pregnant and was on the other side of Bhealthy.
