At the workplace, it is easy to forget about the impact our actions can have on the environment. But by being a little careful and making a few small changes, we can reduce our ecological footprint and do our part to improve the sustainability of our work environment. Here are some simple but effective ideas to be more sustainable at work.
- Reduce paper consumption. Choose digitization. Take advantage of working with digital documents and share information by e-mail, whatsapp, airdrop, quitshare, bluetooth or other systems instead of printing it. In case it is necessary to print, do it double-sided and use recycled paper, evaluate if it is necessary to print in color. Also, you can take advantage of papers that are no longer useful, but still have space to take notes or make drafts. In this way, you will reduce paper and ink consumption in the office, and, in addition, you will be also using less physical space.
- Work with sustainable office supplies. To be more sustainable in the office, the materials we use on a daily basis also need to be environmentally friendly. Some examples of sustainable materials that can be used are refillable pens, cartons and folders made from recycled materials, or reusable toner and printer cartridges.
- Promote green mobility. Commuting to work is a major contributor to CO2 emissions. One way to encourage greener mobility is to carpool with colleagues who live nearby. Another option is to use public transportation or walk or bike to work if your office is nearby.
- Reduce plastic waste. Plastic is one of the wastes that takes the longest to be degraded, and that is why it is considered one of the most polluting materials. Reducing consumption in the office is essential. One way to do this is to avoid buying plastic bottles for drinking water during the day and use a reusable bottle instead. The same could apply to disposable plastic cups and cutlery and opt for reusable alternatives.
- Be energy efficient. Electricity is also one of the most wasted resources in offices and offices. Fortunately, there are several ways to save electricity. The first is to be conscientious and responsible and remember to turn off lights when they are not needed. In addition, we recommend using energy-saving LED bulbs instead of conventional bulbs that entail higher energy costs and limiting the temperature in both summer and winter. We can also avoid using the elevator if it is not necessary, since it consumes a large amount of energy at the end of the year. If you are not on a floor that is too high, get used to taking the stairs and at the same time you will be healthier.
